SUMMARY

To assist the teacher and achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  1. Scores and records such achievement or diagnostics test as the teacher recommends for individual students.
  1. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  1. Guides work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  1. Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  1. Alerts the regular teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
  1. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully certificated teachers.
  1. Participates in service training programs as are appropriate to assigned job.
  1. Duplication and lamination of papers.
  1. Provides necessary mobility for assigned child in classroom related activities.
  1. Provides necessary mobility for assigned child in school field trips.
  1. Provides tutorial assistance when assigned child has difficulty in keeping up with the class work being delivered to other students.
  1. Attends to the assigned child's special needs which include cleaning up when child is incontinent. Assists the child daily in accomplish all toilet functions.  Cleans up after child regurgitates when faced with other than normal daily environment.
  1. Responsible for insuring the child is not exposed to materials that cause allergic reaction.
  1. Diaper changing.
  1. Monitors special health concerns of the assigned child where shunts are installed or after surgical work has been performed.
  1. Provides protection for child from being accidently hurt by fellow students.
  1. Carries out procedures that are developed as corrective measures for the assigned child which involves placement in specialized equipment for a specific length of time.
  1. Assists at lunch with teaching feeding skills.
  1. Joint planning and discussion concerning each child and possible learning styles and behavioral techniques.
  1. Recording responses on test protocol during child assessments.
  1. Teach toileting skills.
  1. One-on-one training
  1. Assists child from transportation source (bus/car) upon arrival and dismissal.
  1. Assists with home visits.
  1. Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten (10) month - 180 days Grade 6

Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
