SUMMARY
To provide a well organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Helping to keep library operating smoothly at all times and being in charge when the librarian is absent.
- Aids students in locating books, records, magazines, newspapers and clippings.
- Helps to direct study library assistants in accomplishing assignment tasks in the library.
- Process orders for film and audio-visual materials for BTM Center, distributes materials and returns same to Center.
- Assists in scheduling and distributing audio-visual aids and equipment.
- Assists to implement the ITV program by taping, playing back and scheduling for playback, and copying tapes.
- Coordinates circulation routines to insure operating efficiency - checking out and renewing books, and collecting overdue books and handling fees for overdue books.
- Generates correspondence, bibliographies and lists, orders, overdue notices, and fine notices.
- Files circulation, clippings, pictures, and periodicals.
- Keeps statistical records - accessioning, inventory, checking orders and invoices, making copies of what needs to be kept on file, maintaining records, inventories, and bookkeeping accounts, preparing, processing and receiving orders, and checking lists and bibliographies to determine availability of materials.
- Oversees library housekeeping chores such as, keeping magazines straight, keeping the chairs neatly in place, keeping circulation desk cleared and in working condition, and keeping periodical room functional.
- Assists the media specialist in maintaining proper student discipline.
- Performs such other tasks as the librarian may from time to time assign.
- Assists in the operation of equipment and makes minor repairs as he/she is capable of making.
- Makes simple repairs on books and other materials.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
