SUMMARY:  To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature men and women.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  1. Acts for the principal and assistant principal in their absence.
  2. Coordinates the school's guidance program.
  3. Coordinates standardized testing program.
  4. Meets with assigned students a minimum of one time each term.
  5. Coordinates the registration and orientation of new students.
  6. Maintains information on vocational guidance materials.
  7. Assists in adjusting class sizes when necessary.
  8. Becomes familiar with policies, regulations, and laws dealing with the guidance program and interprets same to teachers, students, and parents.
  9. Confers with students, parents, and teachers whenever necessary.
  10. Assists in scheduling parent-teacher conferences.
  11. Assists out-of-school agencies that provide services to students, such as, psychologists, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and health nurse. (Region 10, etc., family physician, social services).
  12. Works to have career guidance information disseminated throughout the school's curriculum.
  13. Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
  14. Provides teachers with test score information.
  15. Keeps teachers informed about students who have special conditions or problems.
  16. Assists in the care of sick and injured students.
  17. Interprets the guidance program to the community.
  18. Coordinates and prepares curriculum lessons for the advisor/advisee program (STAT). Provides specific individual and group counseling in areas such as anger management.
  19. Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises the Guidance Secretary and the students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

EVALUATIONS

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Teacher  Scale.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Eleven month teacher - 220 days - Teacher salary scale

Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
